FOUNDATIONS FOR DEVELOPING THE CURRICULUM OF ISLAMIC RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
Abstract
The curriculum holds a central role in the education system as a primary reference for the learning process. However, the Islamic Religious Education (PAI) curriculum continues to face several challenges, particularly regarding the relevance of its content to students’ real-life experiences. It often emphasizes cognitive aspects, leaving religious values inadequately internalized in students’ attitudes and behaviors. This study adopts a qualitative approach using literature review as its method. Data were collected by analyzing various sources such as books and scholarly articles discussing curriculum development theories and practices. The data were then examined using content analysis techniques. Findings indicate that curriculum development should be grounded in four fundamental foundations: philosophical, psychological, sociological, and technical. These components serve as guiding principles to ensure the curriculum aligns with students’ needs and contemporary developments. Therefore, curriculum planning must be carried out systematically and contextually, involving competent experts so that the PAI curriculum can adapt to social changes and technological advancements.
